Tony / Peter P. / May

ironandheart: (= 60 + Peter)
[personal profile] ironandheart

WHO: Tony Stark, Peter & May Parker
WHAT: Reunions
WHERE: Tony's office in the building
WHEN: Monday, Sept. 21
WARNINGS: Tony's mouth, probably

Tony dashed a note to May on the network once he heard from Peter. Should he have waited to see the boy with his own two eyes? What if he was hurt? Peter might not want his aunt seeing him hurt. But what if he wasn't hurt? May would want to see her nephew straight away. Tony knew that because he needed to see Peter right away. He needed to see he was whole and healthy and alive.

"Calm down, Stark," he muttered to himself. "Calm the fuck down. The kid can't see you like this." He took several deep breaths and imagined Rhodey talking him down from a panic attack. He focused on what Rhodes would say if he was there. "Gotta be there for the kid," Tony, then much calmer, reminded himself.

Tony gave May a small smile and nod as he took a few steps back so Peter could have a moment with his aunt. His shirt was wet, but he didn't mind. He really had become a dad.

May hugged Peter tightly and kissed his cheek. "Baby, it is okay," she promised. "What's going on?" She smoothed his hair and fussed over her boy. "Everything is fine now. We're all here together," she said, indicating Tony too.

Peter would be all for a multi-person hug. But he curled himself around May.

"Too much," he said. There really was way too much going on for him to explain everything. How did one explain that they'd been gone for five years, only to come back and watch one of the most important people in his life die, then to get whisked away from that to a strange world where that person isn't dead and everything is sideways?

Then a thought occurred to him. "Are we all supposed to be here?" The question directed as much to Mr. Stark as it was to May.

May kissed his cheek and wiped tears away. She glanced at Tony, who exhaled and said, "He is from...my death apparently." He had time to process his different reality after speaking to Morgan, so his tone was even. He stepped closer to May and Peter and rubbed Peter's back. "Kid has been through a lot today."

May's face softened. Her poor kid. No wonder he was so upset. He'd just come from a battle and watching his mentor pass. "Everything happens for a reason," she told Peter in response to his question. "So, yes, I think we are meant to be here together."

Tony wasn't quite so optimistic, but he added, "We were bringing you all back," he explained. "From the snap. We opened some other portal and it is a bit complicated, but I'm sorting it out."

He blinked and leaned back a little. "I - I didn't mean existentially," he said. "I mean, d-doesn't the universe want everyone in th-their right places?" As in, how long before the universe decides to right things and send him back to where he left?

Tony had a hunch what Peter meant. "I'm researching it," he assured the boy. "I think some people have reason to want to stay and if that is the case..." He thought of Bruce and Nat. He thought of his daughter. Oh, yes, people had reason to stay. "The universe seems to have split us into a pocket dimension of sorts. We have alternate realities so it seems we can be in multiple places at once." It was a lot to unload on Peter, even if he was smart as a whip. Tony just wanted to take care of him and get him to eat. The kid had been through hell, something Tony felt responsible for.

Peter took a deep breath. "Sure, some people might like this world or reality or whatever better, but th-that doesn't mean they can stay here. What if them being here is tearing apart the reality they came from?" Which was really a way for him to ask how pissed off the universe is about people being in the wrong place. It was also hiding a lot of his fear. A lot. Putting his mask up would be wicked obvious, so, instead, he was asking questions.

May kept an arm around Peter's shoulder as he asked his questions. Honestly, the science was above her head, even if she was damn smart in her own right. Her focus was soothing Peter, but she didn't have answers for him.

"I believe this is the universe's response to us fucking...ah, sorry, May...to us messing with time," Tony admitted. "We created a new dimension somehow. I don't think going home will be that easy, but I don't want to cause panic among everyone so that stays between us, hmm?"

May rolled her eyes. "I've said worse." She winked at her nephew. "Right, honey?"

Peter rolled his eyes, not even hiding it. Adults were so weird with their censoring. Mr. Stark has heard him swear. 'Bad words' weren't new. He almost almost said 'you do realize I'm 16 not 6, right?', but stopped himself. He could behave when he needed to.

He nodded at Mr. Stark. He wasn't going to say it, but he didn't really want to go home. He'd rather stay here. But, at the same time, he didn't want to destroy the fabric of the universe either.

With a sigh, his weary shoulders sagged a little. "Um, since I can't walk around like this," he motioned to his suit, "do you - do you have clothes I can change into? And, um, maybe somewhere I can shower?" He would eat after that, right now, he was too grungy.

May stifled a laugh at Peter's rolled eyes. There was her spunky kid. She didn't mind things like swearing; there were far worse things Peter could do or hear. "You can shower in our apartment," she responded since there was no way she wasn't living with Peter. She looked at Tony. "Unless..."

"Mine is closer," Tony agreed, picking up on May's hint. "And I have plenty of clothes until we get you some of your own." He ruffled Peter's hair. "Then we'll have lunch and...when you are ready, you'll meet Morgan? My daughter?"

Peter was still just sixteen - living alone, while sounding pretty awesome on the outside, probably way less fun than he might think. So living with May wouldn't bother him at all.

"Right now, I just wanna clean up and get food. I - I don't think I want to be around more people just yet." Though, the fact that he let go of Mr. Stark and isn't half-buried against Aunt May was pretty impressive at this point. He's had a pretty shit day so far.

Tony nodded. "I understand. I'll show you the way." He'd normally get one of the staff to show the residents around, but this wasn't just a resident. It was Peter. His Peter.

May kissed Peter's cheek again. "Yeah, go on with Mr. Stark. I'll be waiting when you are ready."

Peter appreciated that Mr. Stark showed him the way rather than having someone else do it. Or having FRIDAY do it. It gave him a few extra minutes to spend with Mr. Stark - and he was taking all the minutes he could get.

"Mr. Stark," he said quietly, "this is gonna sound stupid, but I feel like I've really missed you even though, for me, you were only gone for a couple minutes." He wasn't even factoring in the whole 'dying' thing.

"It doesn't sound dumb. I'm very lovable. Of course you missed me." He laughed and patted Peter's back. "I really missed you, kid. I thought..." His eyes grew misty again. Damn it. "Well, this is a miracle to me and you and I? We're going to spend a lot of time together from now on. You'll be sick of me."

Peter gave him some serious side-eye, because, really, Mr. Stark?

Then he shook his head and stopped to hug him again. "I'll never be sick of you."

Tony could get used to all the hugs. It reminded him Peter was really back with him where he belonged.

He chuckled. "Well, good, because you don't need your webbing to be stuck with me."

He gestured to the apartment door. "This is me," he said as he placed his hand over the Touch ID lock. "I'll get you some clothes for the next couple of days. We'll have to go shopping, yeah?"

Mr. Stark will need to get used to all the hugs, but Peter might never stop.

"Bad jokes - knew I was missing something."

Peter nodded at the mention of shopping, but he felt a little uneasy about it. Sure, Mr. Stark had plenty of money, but that didn't mean that Peter wanted to just take it. It's one of those things that would just always feel weird to him. "Yeah, o-okay." He stepped through the door into the apartment. "I'm going to use up all of your hot water, just so you know. I'm covered in dirt and crap from at least three different planets and an alien spaceship."

"Hmph." Tony pretended to be miffed at Peter's quip. "I could have been a comedienne, I'll have you know." He still couldn't help smiling. He was smiling more in the last hour than he had in five years. "Use it, take your time," Tony answered with a wave of his hand. "It is through that door."

True to his word, Peter spent an obscene amount of time in the shower. Half of that was playing with all the knobs and levers and buttons and things just to see what they all did. What? You can't put an inquisitive science nerd in a fancypants shower with nifty gadgets and expect him to not play with stuff. (And he knew FRIDAY would block him or fix things if necessary.)

Now that he was clean, he could get a good look at what his external, superficial injuries might be. There weren't that many, just a few cuts and bruises here and there. He could feel some sore spots where he'd gotten tossed around the battlefield. All of the physical pain was nothing compared to the emotional mess he was still sorting through. That was going to take a while.

He wrapped himself in the big fluffy robe FRIDAY directed him to, then stepped out of the bathroom in search of Mr. Stark and whatever clothes he was going to be able to wear until he had his own stuff.

Tony had packed a duffel bag filled with enough clothes for the week. The t-shirts were mostly band and science related. Then there were jeans, sweat pants, and some pajamas.

"Hey, kid," he said when he spotted Peter fresh out of the shower. He was sitting on the sofa, clicking away on his phone. "Ready for that pizza?"

Peter got dressed - sweats and a tee for now, going for comfort. He walked over to the couch and sat down next to Mr. Stark. He leaned against the man's shoulder. "I'd kind of like to just sit here for a little bit, if that's okay."

Tony easily moved so that the boy could rest against him. "Sure, Pete," he agreed. He'd do whatever the boy needed. He put his phone down and brought a hand up to massage the kid's soft hair. "I'm proud of you," Tony said, finally seeing his chance. "You are a good kid and a good hero." He kissed the top of his head. "You are part of the family now. I hope you know that."

He shook his head, rocking it against Mr. Stark's shoulder. "I'm not a good hero." Then his voice got quieter. "I... I couldn't save you." And he was really upset about that.

Tony sighed. "Kid, c'mere." He gently moved so that Peter rested against his chest instead of his shoulder. He rubbed his arm as he talked. "Peter Parker, listen to me, young man." He put on his best "dad" voice. "No one could, okay? Morgan explained and...I had to do it to keep you both safe. To keep Pepper safe. There was nothing for you to do because I made the choice. Dr. Strange said there was only one way." Although, he didn't factor in pocket dimensions apparently.

Peter leaned easily against Mr. Stark, fully accepting any and all comfort the man was offering. He needed it so much right now. "How do you know? How do you know no one could save you? That it had to go that way?"

"There was no time left, kid." Tony hated how much he hurt his loved ones. "I just watched Bruce wield that thing to undo the snap and..." He shook his head. "And no one could survive that besides the Hulk. And even he struggled." He squeezed Peter tightly as he spoke. "But I'm here," he reminded the boy. "And you are here, okay? I promise I won't do anything too stupid here." He flicked Peter's forehead jokingly. "You promise the same, kid."

"You don't know that. You don't know that he was the only one." There may be several things that were going on in Peter's head - grief steps that were jumbled or just a miasma of feelings he wasn't really sure how to manage. He glared a little at the flick to his nose. "I'm - I'm scared, Tony." Clearly something was up if he'd dropped the formality. Just don't ask him exactly what, he's not sure he'd be able to say.

Tony wished he could offer the boy more comfort, but, truly, what could he say? He could only promise him he'd do his best to keep them both safe. "I know," he said gently, "I'm scared too. I don't want to lose you or Morgan. I missed you so damn much these last five years. I love you, kid, okay? I'm going to do everything I can to keep us both here." He reached for a sofa pillow, put it in his lap, and patted it. "Why don't you get some rest, kid? I'll stay with you." He'd hold him all night if he wanted.

It's actually really weird. Peter had come from a time and place where Mr. Stark was still half-annoyed at his existence. And he never would've told Peter that he missed him, much less loved him. This was all so bizarre for him. The fact that he hadn't laugh-cried himself into some sort of fugue state is pretty impressive.

There's no fight at all when Mr. Stark suggested he sleep. Despite having no idea how long he'd been awake, he hadn't really felt tired until just now. He didn't say anything, just rested his head on the pillow and tucked his feet up on the couch. "Will you..." a slightly hitched breath, "will you just - talk to me until I fall asleep?"

Tony kept running his hand through Peter's hair, trying to lull him to sleep. "Sure," he agreed. He'd focus on the present and the future, not the past. "We're going to have fun once you are rested," he promised. "We'll tinker in my lab in a few days and we'll have dinner on Sunday and we'll..." He just kept talking about all the things they'd do together.

Peter really liked the sound of Mr. Stark's voice. And, especially today, he needed to know Mr. Stark was there. Alive. Not burned. Hearing him talk while he fell asleep let him know that.

It didn't take him very long to fall asleep, but he had forced himself to stay awake a little longer than he might otherwise, just to listen to all the things Mr. Stark said they were gonna do. He wanted to stay awake longer and keep listening, but his weary body wouldn't let him and he finally drifted off, relaxing against Mr. Stark's lap.
