For once, Gamora thought fondly of the days with Thanos, when she had been so practiced at shoving down her feelings and desires that not a single person who met her would believe she had any. That was so much easier than the mess she kept making now.
“Peter I get that I’m not the easiest to spend time with right now, but when you came over here, I thought you wanted to spend time with us. But then it just felt like you actually came over here to tell me I was doing it wrong,” she paused. Groot was dangling from the table trying to make a death defying drop to the ground.
She grabbed him, and lowered him to a reasonable jumping point, her eyes following him as he scampered off. “So I called you back to start a fight, then thought better of it, but I’m much better at fighting than not. So i screwed that up too.”
"I did, I mean I do want to spend time with you. I always do,". He watched Groot yell furiously at a pigeon and then turned back to Gamora.
"I just..." he stopped and then started again, "I didn't think you were doing anything wrong. " He toyed with the cable attaching his headphones to the Walkman clipped to his belt.
"Do you want me to stick around or take off?" Peter glanced around at the people gathered in front of the trucks, "I just want you and Groot to have a good time." He thought about all the stuff left to do on the Benetar, "I should probably go work on making the ship livable, but it's up to you. "
“Peter, that’s not really the question. I always want you to stay. Even when you piss me off and I am considering punching you in your perfect face, I want you to stay. I’m just not used to feeling so unsure and clingy about it.” Gamora pushed her hair off her face. She decided she hated everything about what her dying did to both of them.
“We’ll be okay if you have work to do. I’ll hang with Groot so he can play and we’ll meet you at home in a little bit.”
"Unsure or clingy isn't the problem," Peter was exasperated, frustrated and now wanted to give Gamora the fight she'd seemed to be looking for.
"Jerking me around and asking me to play 'what's my bitch' is the problem." He set his jaw and said, "You know where to find me when you decide to tell me what the fuck is going on." Peter managed to walk off, despite the proverbial stick up his ass.
